On May 26, 2006, the Goi Peace Foundation hosted a lecture/workshop at the Tokyo FM Hall with last year's Goi Peace Award laureate Dr. Lester Brown. The special event organized in cooperation with the Future 500/E-Square. Inc. invited the audience to actively exchange ideas with Dr. Brown as to what we can do in the next twenty years to save our ailing planet and take steps forward toward a new civilization. Mr. Peter David Pedersen, environmental consultant and Chief Executive of E-Square, Inc., facilitated the program which began with a presentation by Dr. Brown and an interview session with him. In the workshop entitled "Drawing a Roadmap to Year 2025" that followed, the 300 participants were asked to write down their own vision, ideas and action plans inspired by Dr. Brown's talk and post them onto the large roadmap on stage.
The board was soon filled with many positive and creative messages ranging from personal plans to global visions. The roadmap was then used to share the various ideas among all participants, so that by the end of the whole program, everyone had a concrete action plan to take home. The participants were particularly delighted to have the chance to shake hands with Dr. Brown as a show of their commitment to fulfill their personal pledge. The respected environmentalist's repeated words "We do not have a lot of time" certainly sank deeply into the hearts of all who heard him.
