Lecture Series by Ambassadors - Cultural Diversity in a Globalized World - at the Gunma Prefectural Women's University

From May through December 2005, the Goi Peace Foundation will be cosponsoring a lecture series at the Gunma Prefectural Women's University, Faculty of International Communication, inviting Ambassadors in Japan as guest lecturers to talk to the students about "Cultural Diversity in a Globalized World."

An understanding of other cultures is an essential precondition for any constructive dialogue between peoples. Learning to respect different ethnicity, religions, traditions and customs will help promote a world of unity in diversity. The lectures are intended to offer the students an opportunity to develop such capacity through interaction with the Ambassadors on the diplomatic front. The Ambassadors will offer their perspective and insights on the given theme, addressing such questions as:

  • What are the unique aspects of their culture, religion and tradition?
  • What are the most important values upheld by their people?
  • What are the elements of an effective communication in diplomacy?
  • What are the hopes and challenges for peace in this globalized world?

In addition to the Ambassadors, the series will also invite as lecturers experts in various fields who are contributing to global peace building.

While this course is a part of the formal curriculum, the general public is also welcome as audience free of charge. Each class is 90 minutes including time for a Q&A.
