Profile

The Foundation for Cultural Heritage has engaged in various activities based on an operational principle called “Cultural Heritage Red Cross Spirit” proposed by Mr. Ikuo Hirayama, a painter in the Japanese style and Executive Director of the Foundation. The Foundation has carried out the preservation and restoration of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes and the Nanjing Wall in China, the ruins of Angkor in Cambodia and the Koguryo Tomb Murals in North Korea, among others. The Foundation has also trained personnel for such activities, and has provided financial support for emergency protection of the possessions of the Kabul Museum in Afghanistan, which was destroyed in that country’s civil war.
